Tackle Talk for the Week of September 4

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

Anglers are reporting some good carp and catfish fishing in the Shady Nook and Hoover’s Island areas. Large live nightcrawler and prepared catfish baits have been working well.  Muskie action has been fair, with reports of some nice catches at Hoover’s Island and some of the popular areas along the Susquehanna River.  Windel’s Muskie Snack lures, Rapala Magnums,River2Sea S-Waver 168 and Savage Gear 8-inch Line Thru Trout are a good choice for a hook-up.  Walleye fishing has been fair at the PP&L Dam on the Sunbury side and the Adam Bower Dam.  Both have been producing better than normal this week.  Some of the better baits have been Old Trail Tackle & Sports Salted Tubes in various colors, Cotton Cordell Wally Divers and Mepp’s #3 & #4 Aglia Plain Spinners.  The best colors for great hookups have been fire tiger platinum, silver/red dot and hot chartreuse.  Most of the better walleye fishing has been in the late evening, with some of the bigger fish being taken in the deeper water and along the shoreline.  Some large smallies are being caught at the Adam Bower Dam south to the Isle of Que on Rapala Clowns, silver shiner and #7 vampire colored lures.  Fishing has been improving on most streams and area lakes and should get better as we approach early fall.

Martin Winnick caught this catfish on the Susquehanna River while night fishing using a Creek Chub. It weighted in at 32 lbs. and 36 inches in length.  Wow! What a great catch!
