Tackle Talk for the week of September 2

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

Since the Susquehanna River was nearly up bank full from recent rains, some anglers are reporting good fishing from the banks and backwater areas.  Some bags were lowered at the Adam Bower Dam, making the current swift for some anglers.  The fishing is good if you know how to fish this type of water.  Angling from boats has been fair, and the baits of choice for smallmouth bass on the Shamokin Dam side around bag no. 6 and 7 are 4-inch zipper spider, 3-inch Z-man chatter bait and Heddon Sonar blade baits in various colors.  Some nice walleye are being taken, mostly at night.  Some of the better bait choices for walleyes have been Challenger micro-minnows, Storm Thundercore minnows and Lake Fork Live Magic Shad 3.5 inches.  Some large channel and flathead catfish were caught on Berkley catfish shad cuts and Magic bait cubes fished on spring treble hooks. Most trout streams are in good condition and are fishable.  On the upper parts of the Penns Creek trout are being caught on redworms and the current fly hatches.  Various colors of Berkley power baits are also a good choice.  Anglers are reporting large numbers of crappie being taken at Walker lake and Blanchard lake with small twisters and shad darts.

Photo Details: Scott and Tyler Mowery had a great day on Harvey's Lake with these impressive bass! Congratulations to you both!
