Tackle Talk for the week of September 16

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

The Susquehanna River is high and off color from days of rain.  The river came up several feet this past week and is very swift.  Large numbers of smallmouth bass and some walleye are being caught at the PP&L dams, and at several popular spots south to the Mckees Half Falls area.  The baits of choice in these areas are large live nightcrawlers, large live shiners, Rapala #5 & #7 Shad Raps in various colors and 1/4oz. spinner baits.  Anglers are reporting some of the best walleye hook-ups before the high water were coming close to the bottom with crankbaits being fished slow.  Bandit lures in shallow and medium runners, and Cordell Big O's are working well for all species.  Green, red and brown have been the best colors.  There has been a good amount of muskie action.  Large Bomber Long A's, XPS Demon Eye and Salmo Maas Marauder are producing some nice muskie.  Channel and flathead catfishing has been very good mostly after dark.  Berkley Shad Guts, Magic Baby Shad and large live nightcrawlers fished on #4 treble hooks are the best choice.  All local waterways are high but should be fishable by weeks end.
