With water temperatures in the low 60’s and plenty of water most anglers are reporting good fishing on the Susquehanna River. Some nice smallmouth bass have been caught from the Adam Bower Dam south to Cherry Island. The baits of choice have been large live nightcrawlers, 3-inch Slug-Go’s , and Z-man TRD’s. It’s all about walleye right now which is in full swing, with some of the nicer fish being caught after dark. Fuzz-E- Grub jigs, medium live shiners, and Old Trail salted tubes black/red flakes, smoke/red, and chartreuse colors are working best. Channel and flathead catfishing throughout the Susquehanna has been fair this past week. The best baits for catfish has been large live nightcrawlers, live sunfish, and Berkley liver flavored pre-molded bait fished on spring treble hooks. Some nice muskie have been caught at some of the popular locations. Lures that have been working well this week have been Rapala No. 18 mags, jointed Creek Chubs, and Shallow Invaders fished in the deeper holes and along the shore lines. Many cold weather anglers switch to live bait this time. Fish can be caught on artificial lures although fishermen have to fish a little slower and concentrate on deeper water.
