The Susquehanna River has been somewhat high and unsettled all week but anglers who can brave these conditions are picking up some nice fish at the popular locations. Fishing has been fair at Shady Nook south to Hoover's Island. The lures of choice for most fish have been dark tubes in various colors and 3-inch twist grubs in smoke and motor oil. Anglers are reporting some nice catfish and carp being taken at some of the more popular locations. Most trout streams are well stocked and in good condition. Anglers are buying redworms, butterworms and live nightcrawlers due to the high water on most streams these baits seem to be working best. Waxworms and gold mealworms are a good choice on stream where the water is clearer. Popular artificial baits that work well are Mepp's spinners, Thomas spinners and Rooster Tails. For the fly fisherman in the early season for trout woven nymphs are a good choice. As water levels recede fish will start to pick up at all the popular locations.
