Anglers on the Susquehanna River have been picking up some large catfish on prepared catfish bait. There have also been some large carp caught below the PP&L Dam on the Shamokin Dam side and a few large catfish and carp have been taken at the Hoover's Island area south of Selinsgrove. Area trout streams are in good shape and well stocked. Anglers were reporting some nice trout being caught this past week from the Mahantango Creek above Malta, as well as Little Shamokin and Schwaben Creek. The baits of choice at the above creeks has been gold mealworms, butterworms, redworms and small silver spinners. Trout fishing has also been good on Swift Run and Upper Middle Creek, with butterworms and redworms working well. Some excellent fishing has also been good on Penns Creek and White Deer Creek with large live nightcrawlers, fatheads, gold mealworms and waxworms being the baits of choice. Bass are in various stages of spawning in the river. From now until mid-June anglers may not target bass in the river downstream from the Adam Bower Dam. Above the dam anglers may fish for bass, but must avoid spawning areas. The Adam Bower Dam bags are gradually being raised, and a full pool on Lake Augusta will probably occur in the next several weeks. Fly fisherman are reporting good results with current fly selections.
Cameron Swineford caught his first bass last Sunday at the Fabridam using Old Trail Tackle & Sports green pumpkin salted tubes. What a great catch Cameron!!!
