Tackle Talk for the week of March 5

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

At the Adam Bower Dam on the Shamokin Dam side, anglers are reporting decent walleye fishing.  Most anglers are reporting nice-sized ones, but not a lot of full stringers.  The baits of choice have been large live shiners and large 4-inch rubber twist minnows in chartreuse, smoke and yellow.  Cabin Creek salty leeches also have been a good bait if fished slowly and close to the bottom.  The Adam Bower Dam, Isle of Que and Hoover’s Island have been producing some nice smallmouth bass for shore fisherman.  The Susquehanna River is higher than normal, but is open and fishable in most areas.  The most effective lures for smallies have been Old Trail hand-tied 3/8 ounce bucktails with black, orange/brown, and white being the most effective colors.  Medium live shiners have also been working well.  Catfishing has been good at most of the popular locations.  Catfish are being caught on large live shiners and prepared catfish baits.  Ice fishing is almost at al standstill, except for some northern most lakes which are still fishable.  Ice anglers willing to take the time and drive the distance are reporting some nice catches through the ice.
