The Susquehanna River is ice free and some brave anglers took advantage of the warmer days to launch their boats. Some of the best fishing has been at the Adam Bower Dam and PP&L Dam on the Shamokin Dam side, where anglers are reporting good fishing for all species. Storm Thundersticks, Old Trail Salted Tubes in various colors, Rapala clowns and 3.5 inch twist grubs in lime green and motor oil are baits of choice for smallmouth bass. Channel catfish angling is picking up at the popular locations with some nice catches being reported, mostly on prepared factory catfish bait. Muskie action is starting to improve as the water becomes warmer. Spring is just around the corner, but ice anglers in the northern lakes are hoping for a few more weeks of ice fishing. All area streams are in good shape for the 18 southeastern counties opening day March 31st. Pre-season trout stocking is going well and all stocked fish should have plenty of room to roam before opening day.
