The Susquehanna River has been raising and falling every week, but river forecasts call for higher water this weekend due to rain and snow melt upstream. The higher temperatures should make for good fishing when things settle down. Anglers are reporting most of the eddies and backwater areas are producing well. Smallmouth bass fishing has been picking up at most traditional locations with Hoover's Island and several areas below the PP&L dams are a good bet. Some of the best action is dusk or later. During the day, Old Trail Salted Tubes and 5-inch smoke, green pumpkin and motor oil twist tail minnows have been the baits of choice. Channel cats have been hitting live nightcrawlers during late evening hours. Crappie fishing has been picking up at most of the popular locations. Small rubber tubes, twisters in various colors and fathead minnows are working well. Local anglers will be helping with trout stream stocking in the next few weeks, report everything is going well at the hatcheries and most streams are accessible. The 2018 Trout Stocking Schedule is available at Old Trail Tackle & Sports.
Cameron Hauck caught this beauty in the Susquehanna River around Millersburg on Old Trail Salted Tubes. Congratulations on a great catch Cameron!
