Tackle Talk for the week of June 4

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

The Susquehanna River has been somewhat high this past week but most anglers report catching all species.  The Adam Bower Dam is fully inflated for the summer season.  Fishing below the dam has been excellent.  Anglers are reporting some nice walleye being caught, as well as, some large brown trout all on the Shamokin Dam side.  Most of the walleye are being taken on Eerie Dearies tipped with large live butterworms or medium live shiners.  Other walleye lures such as Rapala, Bomber, Rebel and Cotton Cordell are also a good choice.  Catfishing has picked up in most areas with the Norry Point area, south to Fishers Island, the most productive.  Most catfish are being caught on large live shiners and prepared catfish baits fished on a No. 2 spring treble hook.  Trout fishing at Raymond Winter Lake has been good.  The bait of choice have been waxworms,  dry flies and butterworms.  Some nice crappie are being caught at Blanchard Lake, Walker Lake and Little Buffalo Lake, waxworms, small rubber twisters in various colors and Northland Shad Tail Mimic Minnow are the baits of choice for large crappie.  Muskie action has been good with some nice fish being landed at the popular areas.  Some of the better producing lures have been Magnum tubes in green pumpkin and smoke colors and Swim Whizz lures.
