Tackle Talk for the week of June 11

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

The Susquehanna River is fairly high and dirty in some areas, from recent rain upstream.  In some areas, smallmouth are hitting spinner baits and crankbaits, but the best action in the dirty water is for channel and flathead catfish.  Catfish are hitting large shiners, nightcrawler and 5-inch sunfish.  Walleye fishing has picked up at little below the Adam Bower Dam.  Anglers are reporting nice walleye caught at various locations this week on Blue Fox silver spinners and large live shiners.  Muskie action has been picking up at most of the popular locations.  The lures of choice have been 7-inch Bomber, Rapala and Salmo lures in various colors.  Trout fishing on Big and Little Pine Creek has been good.  Waxworm, butterworms and gold mealworms are the live baits of choice.  Fly fishing on most local streams has been very good with most anglers having the best luck using flies matched to the seasonal hatches.  Mahantango Creek anglers are doing well with fathead minnows and small Blue Fox and Mepp’s spinners.  If the weather is good small spinners of various colors should be a good choice for the coming week.

Photo Details:  Cameron Hauck caught this bass on the Susquehanna River near the fabridam.  Another great catch by one of your customers! Congrats Cameron.
