Tackle Talk for the week of July 9

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

Anglers are reporting good fishing in area streams and on the Susquehanna River, with good weather bringing large numbers of fisherman to the streams.  With good flow at the fully inflated Adam Bower Dam, anglers are reporting good fishing on both sides all the way down stream to the PP&L dams.  Fishing has also been good from boats.  Smallmouth bass are being picked up on medium live shiners, nightcrawlers, Gains Crippled Killers and Old Trail salted tubes in standard colors.  Walleye fishing has been good on both sides of the Bower Dam south to McKees Half Falls.  Some of the better baits for wallies have been Rapala Clown, silver shiner and perch lures.  Muskie action has been good with reports of nice catches in the Shady Nook and Hoover’s Island areas.  Most are being taken on large bucktail jigs and Castaic soft bait sunfish lures.  Catfishing has been in full swing on the Susquehanna with anglers reporting live shiners and prepared Magic Bait fished on a spring treble working best.  Trout fishing has been good.  There are fewer anglers pursing then now, but good action has been reported on the Loyalsock, Penns Creek and White Deer Creek.  Butterworms, waxworms and small spinners in various colors are producing some good catches.
