Tackle Talk for the week of July 8

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

The Susquehanna River is still a little off color, although the river came up from recent upstream rains, water conditions and temperatures have been good.  Walleye fishing has been productive with some of the larger ones being caught after dark at the PP&L Dam on the Sunbury side and at the Adam Bower Dam.  Cordell Big O's, Walley Divers, Old Trail Salted tubes and medium live shiners are working best.  Smallmouth bass have been active at some locations, some of the better lures have been Heddon Super Spook Jr., Baby Torpedos, River 2 Sea Whopper Ploppers and live medium shiners.  Fish them slow and use a good attractant like Yum garlic.  The cloudy water has led to some good channel cat and flathead fishing.  Several large catfish in the 25-plus inch range have been taken with large live nightcrawlers and Magic Bait cut shad.  There are reports of shad being caught from the Adam Bower Dam south to Hoover's Island.  Some nice stripers have been caught on Rapala Husky Jerks and Yo-Zuri lures in various colors.  Trout anglers are reporting most area streams are in good condition and producing well. Butterworms, Berkley Powerbait and Mepps (No. 00) spinners are the baits of choice on Mahantango, White Deer Creek, Rapid Run and Middle Creek.

Photo Details: Zach Haley caught this beauty at a remote pond in Northumberland.  Great catch Zach!!
