The Susquehanna River has been a challenge lately. The high off color water has made most fishing difficult. Some anglers are reporting some good hook ups in the eddies and backwater areas. There have been some nice smallmouth bass caught in the area of the Adam Bower Dam and Shady Nook. Old Trail 3.5 inch salted tubes fished slowly and close to the bottom, with a good attractant such as Smelly Jelly are doing the trick. Walleye fishing has also been fair at most of the popular locations on the river. Some of the better baits have been Swedish Pimples, bright colored bucktails and medium live shiners. Weather conditions in the 40's with sun during the day have been bringing quite a few anglers to the shores of the Susquehanna River to try their luck. With some warmer weather during the day with rain ice fishing has become very difficult, with most ice unsafe to go on. As the water level drops and clarity increases the Muskie action should pick up. Hoover's Island area and Shady Nook are two good winter time spots for muskie. Some of the better lures for muskie action this time of year are Mepp's Tandem Musky Killers, Musky Angler bucktail spinners and regular Medussa Suckers.
