Tackle Talk for the week of January 13

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

The river is higher than normal and of color in some areas.  The walleye fishing has picked up with some action below both the Adam Bower Dam and the PP&L power dams.  Walleye have been caught on medium shiners, jerkbaits and 5-inch twist rubber minnows during daylight.  At dusk and after dark Rapala F-11 in clown and hot steel are working well.  Smallies are still hitting surface lures at times, such as Gaines Crippled Killer's.  The colder temperature and weather has dropped water temperature into the 30's.  Some of the better fishing is coming from deeper hole along the shoreline.  Muskie action at most of the popular spots has been picking up.  The lures of choice have been Storm Kickin' 6 inch and 10 inch minnows.  Mepp's Musky Buck and Blue Fox #5 & #6 spinners are working well.  Channel and flathead catfishing has been sporadic with some anglers doing very well after dark near the shoreline and backwater areas.  Large live shiners and various shad 6 inch baits have been top produces.  Local lake fishing has been good with most of the standard bait and lures working well.  Anglers who have been going north for steelhead and brown trout have been reporting some of the best fishing in recent years.
