There has been some ice floating on the Susquehanna River, but with water temperatures low water levels somewhat high at most locations this week, it takes hardy anglers to fish those conditions. But as late as last week some anglers were still fishing from boats at some of the more popular areas on the river, and reports were that they were doing well. Some muskie and walleye are being caught, mostly south to Hoover’s Island at the most popular locations. Muskie lures such as Muskie Mania 8-inch Jakes in a blood-perch color and Savage Gear 3D 6-inch dark trout are working well. With temperatures in the teens, most lakes further north such as Hunter Lake, Rose Valley Lake, Lake Jean, etc. should be ice-fishable by the weekend. Some of the best baits for ice fishing are waxworms, fathead minnows, beaded head nymphs and small jigs. Fishing licenses are now available for the 2017 season and can be picked up at your local agent or online at the Pennsylvania Fish Commission website, Happy Holidays to everyone and a healthy New Year.
