Cold weather and some ice flow at several locations on the Susquehanna River slowed the fishing this past week. But with recent mild weather, late season smallmouth bass and walleye fishing has been good. Some large smallmouth have been taken at the popular locations. Smoke twisters, smoke twist minnows 3.5" size and large live shiners have been very effective. At the Adam Bower Dam walleye are being caught on the Shamokin Dam side where the baits of choice have been large nightcrawlers fished on crawler rigs and 3.5 inch Old Trail Salted Tubes. Some of the better colors have been chartreuse/silver flake, smoke/red black flake and smoke. Muskie fishing has been fair, but the die-hard anglers are picking up a few in the more popular areas using some of the more common muskie lures. Anglers are reporting some good ice starting to form on some of the northern lakes which should become better as the nights get colder. The best baits for ice fishing have been live waxworms, gold mealworms, Marmooska No. 10 jigs and K&E flipper jigs. Reminder: Fishing licenses follow the calendar year, so remember to have your 2018 license next time out.
