The Susquehanna River is up several feet and off color in some areas from several days of rain but with recent mild weather late season smallmouth bass and walleye fishing has been good. Some large smallmouths have been taken at the popular locations. Smoke 3-1/2 inch twist grubs, smoke, motor oil and chartreuse 4-1/2 inch twist minnows and large live shiners have been very effective. At the Adam Bower Dam walleye are being caught around bags #2 and #6 where the baits of choice have been large nightcrawlers fished on double hook crawler rigs and rubber 3-1/2 inch minnows and grubs. Some of the better colors have been avocado, chartreuse, pearl, and grape. Anglers are reporting the better fishing in the late evening and early morning hours. Fishing has been good from boats but reports have the better fishing and hook-ups coming from shore angling. All area lakes are producing well and have good water levels. Muskie and Channel catfishing action has been good and should get better at the popular spots with anglers using the standard lures for some good hook-ups.
Ethan Hoy (L) and Hunter Loss (R) caught these nice bass at the Sunbury Fishing Tournament near the marina. The baits of choice were tubes and bubble gum fluke. The boys placed 2nd out of 30 boats and are freshmen at Mifflinburg Area High School. Congratulations Ethan and Hunter!
