Tackle Talk for the week of August 13

Old Trail Tackle & Sports Tackle Talk

Water conditions this past week on most streams and the Susquehanna River have been good. Most tributaries are clear with water temperatures in the high 70's.  Anglers are reporting some good fishing at the Adam Bower Dam south to the Isle of Que.  Smallmouth bass are still hitting well in most locations of the river.  Medium live shiners, live nightcrawlers and Old Trail Salted tubes in green pumpkin, black/red flake and smoke/purple are the best choices.  Walleye are being caught mostly in the late evening on large nightcrawlers fished on crawler rigs and 3 1/2 inch rubber twist grubs soaked in various attractants such as Jack's Juice, Baitmate (gamefish) and Proguide Smelly Jelly.  Topwater lures with Whopper Plopper, Heddon Zara Spook, baby torpedoes and Smithwick Devils Horse are accounting for some good catches.  The lures of choices in the Hoover's Island area have been Gaines Crippled Killers, Bill Lewis Rat-L-Traps and Scum frogs.  There have been reports of muskies being caught at various locations on the Susquehanna River.  The lures of choice have been Windels Muskie Snacks, Smity Baits, Big-Fin Spinnerbaits and Savage Gear eel.  Catfishing has been steady with the larger fish showing up well after dark.  Shad baits and chicken livers have reeled in some big channel cats and a few flatheads.  All local lakes are producing well with artificial lures working best.
